Itinerary

Day 1 | Monday, April 7: Depart for Rome

Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.

Day 2 | Tuesday, April 8: Arrival in Rome

Welcome to Rome, also known as, “The Eternal City”. Upon arrival at Rome airport, collect your luggage in the baggage claim area, and continue to the arrival hall, where you will be greeted by a tour escort and/or driver. You will make your way to the bus and transfer to your hotel. Following check-in, you will have free time to unpack and relax or explore Rome on your own. Your tour escort may suggest places to visit. Later in the afternoon, your group will meet in the hotel lobby for a “Meet and Greet” with your fellow pilgrims and depart for Mass. Following Mass, you will attend a welcome dinner. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to walk to St. Peter’s Square as a group, for the Rosary (optional).

Day 3 | Wednesday, April 9: Rome: Papal Audience - Basilica of St. John the Lateran - Holy Steps - Basilica of St. Mary Major

After a nice breakfast at your hotel, your sightseeing day in Rome starts! The tour begins with the Papal Audience in St. Peter’s Square! The Audience is celebrated each Wednesday by His Holiness, Pope Francis (pending the papal schedule). Following the Audience, we will enjoy the group lunch, then have free time to shop or mail a postcard from the Vatican Post Office. This afternoon you will visit the oldest of the four major Basilicas in Rome, and the home to the relics of Peter and Paul, the Basilica of St. John the Lateran. This Basilica is where Pope Francis was installed as Bishop of Rome, and where he officiates as the Bishop of Rome. Next, we will cross the street to visit the Holy Staircase. Tradition states that this staircase is from Pontius Pilate’s palace of Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. It is also said that this Staircase was brought to Rome by St. Helen in the 4th century. If time permits, you may climb the steps on your knees, in memory of Christ’s agonizing Passion. To conclude your day, we will proceed to the Basilica of St. Mary Major. This Basilica contains a relic from the Manger of the Infant Jesus. Reminder of the day is free. Dinner on your own and overnight.

Day 4 | Thursday, April 10: Rome: Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s Basilica

Today we tour St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter the Apostle was martyred. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to view Michelangelo’s Pieta sculpture and pray at the tombs of Pope Benedict XVI and St. John Paul II. Next, you will visit the Vatican Museum, where you can see the Tapestry Gallery, Raphael Rooms, and Sistine Chapel. The group will enjoy lunch together. Reminder of the day is free.

Day 5 | Friday, April 11: Santa Croce and Downtown Rome Tour

Following breakfast, we will visit the Basilica of Santa Croce which was declared a titular church by Pope Gregory I in 523. Despite the fact it was located on the outskirts of Rome, it became a destination of regular pilgrimage, thanks to the popularity of the relics it kept. These relics include the panel, which was hung on Christ’s Cross, two thorns of the Crown of Thorns; part of a nail; the index finger of St. Thomas; and three small wooden pieces of the True Cross. Next, we will visit St. Lawrence, this Basilica is one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome and one of the five “papal basilicas”, each of which was assigned to the care of a Latin Church patriarchate. After lunch, continue to visit iconic sites of Rome like the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps and afternoon strolling Rome. Overnight in Rome.

Day 6 | Saturday, April 12: Rome: Catacombs and St Paul Outside the Walls

After a good morning breakfast, we will visit the Catacombs in Rome. The world’s largest underground burial of its ancient Christian community. After we will visit the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. Originally founded by Emperor Constantine in the 4th Century, this Basilica is the burial place of Saint Paul the Apostle. The group will enjoy lunch together, and then the rest of your day is free to explore. Overnight in Rome.

Day 7 | Sunday, April 13: Rome: Palm Sunda Mass with Pope (pending confirmation) and Scavi Tour (pending confirmation)

Following breakfast group will attend Palm Sunday Mass celebration with the Pope (pending confirmation). Continue with the Vatican Scavi Tour that goes through the excavations below Saint Peter’s Basilica is one of the most exclusive tours in all of Rome. Your tour will be in a small group with a maximum of about 14 people and last around 90 minutes. The grand finale is a visit to the actual tomb of Saint Peter, where, by peering around a corner, you will see the bones of the Prince of the Apostles. The group will enjoy lunch together. Overnight in Rome.

Day 8 | Monday, April 14: Rome Airport – USA

After an early breakfast and heartfelt farewells, your group will leave by motor coach and transfer to Rome Fiumicino airport for return flights home. Arrivederci, Roma!
