Archbishop-Pierbattista-Pizzaballa-206tours

It was announced on Saturday, October 24th that His Holiness, Pope Francis, appointed Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, O.F.M, as the Latin Patriarch in Jerusalem. His Beatitude spent the last four years in service as the Apostolic Administer and has lived and served in the Holy Land for over 30 years.

His Beatitude is a very strong supporter of Pilgrimage to the Holy Land as he understands how greatly it supports the local community financially as well as protects the presence of Christianity in the region. In a July 2020 Vatican News article, Archbishop Pizzaballa acknowledged that Holy Land Pilgrimages will have to adapt to accommodate changes required in a post-COVID-19 world, however, he noted: “in the Holy Land the pilgrimage will always have the fundamental characteristic of an encounter with Jesus in his places. This will never change”

Archbishop Pizzaballa has personally greeted many 206 Tours Pilgrims over the past four years, even concelebrating Mass with eight of our Spiritual Directors in 2019, as shown below. In a letter to 206 Tours Founder, Milanka Lachman, the Archbishop wrote, “The presence of pilgrims is very important for our local Christians, as a sign of solidarity that you all stand with us in the many challenges we face every day.”

Today on Ave Maria Radio Fr. Przemyslaw Nowak gave a fantastic interview to host Vanessa Denha Garmo on “Epiphany” in celebration of the Feast of Saint John Paul II. Fr. Nowak is one of our fantastic Spiritual Directors and the Vice-Rector of Vice-Rector and Dean of Pastoral Formation at Saints Cyril & Methodius Seminary. He was born in Poddebice, Poland, and has Masters of Divinity and an M.A. in Theology. He also serves as Chaplain (1LT) for the United States Army Reserve. For years Fr. Nowak has been a valued member of the 206 Tours Family.

In the interview Fr. Nowak says of Pope John Paull II; “We are indebted to him and his legacy as a Church and will be for decades to come.” He continues to explain how important Saint John Paul II is, and why we should celebrate him on his feast day.

Fr. Nowak says of his own faith journey, his epiphany moment occurred on a 206 Tours Pilgrimage with Dr. Scott Hahn to Fatima for the 100th Anniversary of the Apparition in 2017. He recalls processing on his knees towards the shrine and receiving a message to “be grateful” – a message he carries with him every day. Fr. Nowak’s section can be heard starting at the 36-minute mark.

Each year around the Feast, the Order comes together for prayer, investiture, and celebrations. Amid the pandemic, this year the order will not celebrate together.

Rather, together we invite all to join us in this beautiful Prayer to Our Lady of Palestine, which is recited daily by many in the order.

Prayer To Our Lady Of Palestine: (Patroness Of The Order)

O Mary Immaculate,

gracious Queen of Heaven and of Earth,

behold us prostrate before thy exalted throne.

Full of confidence in thy goodness

and in thy boundless power,

we beseech thee to turn a pitying glance upon Palestine,

which more than any other country belongs to thee,

since thou hast graced it with thy birth,

thy virtues and thy sorrows,

and from there hast given the Redeemer to the world.

Remember that there especially

thou wert constituted our tender Mother,

the dispenser of graces.

Watch, therefore, with special protection

over thy native country,

scatter from it the shades of error,

for it was there the Sun of Eternal Justice shone.

Bring about the speedy fulfilment of the promise,

which issued from the lips of Thy Divine Son,

that there should be one fold and one Shepherd.

Obtain for us all that we may serve the Lord

in sanctity and justice during the days of our life,

so that, by the merits of Jesus

and with thy motherly aid,

we may pass at last from this earthly Jerusalem

to the splendors of the heavenly one.

Amen.

“Imprimatur, Jerusalem. Kal. Jan. 1926: Aloysius Patriarcha”

Our Lady of Palestine, Pray for Us, and help us to continue the Order’s mission to protect and preserve Christianity in the Holy Land.

October 22nd is the Feast of Saint John Paul II, one of the modern world’s favorite Popes! Pope John Paul II was our first Polish Pontiff and the second longest-serving Holy Father. His papacy lasted from his election on October 16, 1978, until his death on April 2, 2005. He was canonized in 2014 and is now a beloved Saint. Many Catholics journey to Poland, his homeland, for a pilgrimage to literally walk in his footsteps.

St. Teresa of Ávila 206 Tours

October 15th is the Feast of Saint Teresa of Ávila. She was the first female Doctor of the Church. She was a Carmelite Nun credited with these fantastic quotes. Pilgrims can visit Alba de Tormes to see her incorrupt heart and left arm in the museum of the Carmelite Convent of the Annunciation.

To this day, many pilgrims visit the crypt of La Santa Convent which was built over her birthplace. She became a Carmelite nun at La Encarnacion Convent which is now also home to the most comprehensive museum dedicated to her life. The Cathedral and the Cuatro Postes (four columns) commemorates how St. Teresa convinced her brother at just seven years old to die as martyrs in the land of Moors, before being brought home by her uncle. Clearly, her devotion started very young. She was also a mystic, theologian, and prominent author. She died in 1582 and was canonized forty years later. She is one of the Patron Saints of Spain, whose feast day is celebrated on the fifteenth of October. She is buried in Alba de Tormes and her incorrupt heart and left arm can be visited in the museum of the Carmelite Convent of the Annunciation.
