Itinerary
Day 1 | Monday, June 30: Depart for Krakow
Make your way to your local airport where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.
Day 2 | Tuesday, July 1: Arrive Krakow
Welcome to Krakow, Poland! Upon arrival, make your way to the baggage claim area and collect your luggage. Proceed to the Arrivals Hall, where you will be greeted by your tour guide and/or driver, and then transferred to your Hotel. Following check-in at your hotel, your pilgrimage will officially begin. Transfer by bus to Czestochowa and check in to your hotel, followed by dinner and optional walk to Shrine to attend the veiling of the Icon of the Black Madonna. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 3 | Wednesday, July 2: Czestochowa
Today you will depart for Czestochowa, and you will visit to Jasna Gora Monastery. This hill-top monastery is home to the beloved icon of the Black Madonna. Additionally, Saint John Paul II is said to have made frequent visits to this monastery throughout his life. Tradition tells us that this icon was painted by Luke the Evangelist, discovered by St. Helen, and later enshrined. While here, you will have the opportunity to venerate not only the Holy Icon, but also many other priceless treasures that are contained within. Lunch on your own, and the afternoon is free for prayer and fellowship. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 4 | Thursday, July 3: Czestochowa - Lagiewniki - Krakow
After breakfast, depart for Lagiewniki to visit the Divine Mercy Shrine. The afternoon is free and dedicated for prayer, devotion, personal refection. Dinner and restful overnight in Krakow.
Day 5 | Friday, July 4: Krakow - Wieliczka - Krakow
After breakfast, you will explore Krakow’s Market Square as the sound of the silver trumpet from St. Mary’s Tower fills the air. The captivating beauty of this square is largely due to the fact that it has remained unchanged for almost 700 years. It contains a number of buildings that hold important historic value such as, the Town Hall Tower, the Cloth Hall, and the Burgher’s houses. Following your time in this longstanding square and visit to St Mary’s Church, you will make your way to Wawel Hill, where you will visit the beautiful Cathedral, and Coronation Chapel. These are among the most important sites in Poland as the Cathedral has been the coronation site of the Polish monarchs and has held numerous pieces of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicist and Modern art. Following lunch on your own, visit the Wieliczka Salt Mines – an incredible world of underground chambers. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 | Saturday, July 5: Krakow - Zakopane - Krakow
After breakfast, you will drive through the mountains to the breathtaking, yet small and remote village of Zakopane. Take a cable car ride to the nearby mountaintop. At the top, you will truly experience God’s magnificent Glory when you look out at the magnificent panoramic view. Following the many photos captured atop the mountain, head to the Jaszczorowka Chapel. This architecturally distinct chapel was visited many times by the young, Karol Wojtyla (Saint John Paul II). As a young boy, Karol Wojtyla often used the walking paths surrounding the Jaszczorowka Chapel for prayer and reflection. After you experience this beautiful site that assisted in Saint John Paul II’s Holy journey, you will continue your tour to the colorful, Krupowki Street. While on this street, you will have the opportunity to do some shopping at the local bazaar before returning to Krakow. Enjoy a beautiful dinner and an optional stroll through the old city before retiring for the evening.
Day 7 | Sunday, July 6: Krakow – Wadowice – Auschwitz – Krakow
Breakfast at the hotel. Divine Liturgy, then a visit to Wadowice, birthplace and childhood home of Pope John Paul II. While in the small city of Wadowice, you will have the opportunity to visit the church where this beloved Saint was baptized and attended Mass as a child. Lunch on your own, then a somber visit to Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz. Return to Krakow for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 | Monday, July 7: Krakow – Presov – Michalovce – Mariapocs
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Mariapocs. Enroute, stop at Presov, to visit the Temple of St. John the Baptist and the burial place of Bishop Basil Hopko and Blessed Pavel Peter Gojdič. Have lunch on your own, then travel to Michalovce to visit the Basilica of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. Blessed Dominic Trcka’s remains rest here. Continue on to Mariapocs for dinner and overnight at the Pilgrim House.
Day 9 | Tuesday, July 8: Mariapocs
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day in Mariapocs to visit the Shrine and pray. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 10 | Wednesday, July 9: Mariapocs - Budapest
After breakfast, depart for Budapest. Stop in Eger to see the Basilica and have lunch. Enjoy a free afternoon in Budapest for prayer and leisure. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 11 | Thursday, July 10: Budapest
After breakfast at the hotel, depart on a tour of Budapest. Visit St. Stephen’s Basilca, honoring the saintly king of Hungary from the 10th and 11th centuries. Venerate the relic of his right hand. Visit the iconic Fisherman’s Bastion and Mattias Church, overlooking the Danube River in the heart of Buda’s Castle District. Dinner and a restful overnight in Budapest.
Day 12 | Friday, July 11: Budapest – Return Flights Home
Depart from Budapest Airport for your return flights home.
