Day 9 | Wednesday, June 18: Pamplona - Zaragoza

Following breakfast we will depart for Pamplona, the capital of Navarre, known world-over for its annual “running of the bulls.” More importantly than this famous sport, however, is an event that took place here in 1521 that would have reverberations around the entire world. It was here that Ignatius’ leg was shattered by a cannonball. If that had not happened, Ignatius may never have experienced such a great conversion of heart, and the Jesuits would not have been formed. The rest is history. In Pamplona we will enjoy a walking tour of the old quarter and the Citadel of Pamplona, followed by free time for lunch. In the afternoon we will depart Pamplona for Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon and one of the most important cities in Spain. It is here, tradition tells us, that Mary once appeared to Saint James the Apostle, who, following the Ascension of Our Lord, set out to preach the Gospel to the people of Spain. “As he was praying with his disciples one night . . . the Mother of God, who still lived, appeared to him, and commanded him to erect an oratory in that place. . . his disciples soon constructed a small chapel. In the course of time a larger church was built and dedicated. . .” In Zaragoza we have the first recorded Marian Apparition – for it took place while she was still alive – and the oldest place of Marian devotion in the world. Here we will tour the old quarter and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, followed by Holy Mass. We will then enjoy dinner and overnight. Holy Mass: Basilica of Our Lady of El Pilar in Zaragoza Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch Overnight: Zaragoza.

Day 10 | Thursday, June 19: Montserrat

After breakfast we will depart Zaragoza for Montserrat, a gorgeous mountaintop abbey where Saint Ignatius hung his military vestments before an image of Our Lady, symbolically putting his old life behind him. We will enjoy an independent lunch along the way. Upon our arrival in Montserrat, we will experience a tour of the abbey before celebrating Holy Mass together. We will also have the opportunity to venerate a historic statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, colloquially known as ‘La Moreneta.’ We will then return to Barcelona where we will check in to our hotel, before sharing a group dinner together and retiring for the evening for some much needed rest. 3 ITINERARY CONTINUED Holy Mass: Abbey of Montserrat Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner Overnight: Barcelona.

Day 11 | Friday, June 20: Barcelona

Following breakfast and the celebration of Holy Mass, we will enjoy a full day of touring Barcelona! Our morning tour will include the Park Guell, a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous for its beautiful mosaics and architecture. We will then have free time for lunch. Upon the completion of our tour we will return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Holy Mass: TBD in Barcelona Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner Overnight: Barcelona.

Day 12 | Saturday, June 21: Barcelona

Following breakfast, we will depart for the Sagrada Familia, the great unfinished nineteenth-century basilica by Servant of God Antoni Gaudí. Here we will enjoy a guided tour and celebrate Holy Mass in the Crypt of the Basilica. We will then have the rest of the day to enjoy on our own as we wish. This would be a great time to try some local food, explore, pray, rest or purchase some souvenirs. In the evening we will all return to our hotel for our final farewell dinner and overnight. Holy Mass: Crypt of the Basilica of La Sagrada Familia Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner Overnight: Barcelona.

Day 13 | Sunday, June 22: Return
