Itinerary
Day 1 | Sunday, July 27: Depart for Rome
Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.
Day 2 | Monday, July 28: Arrival in Rome
Welcome to Rome, also known as, “The Eternal City”. Upon arrival at Rome airport, collect your luggage in the baggage claim area and continue to the Arrivals Hall, where you will be greeted by a tour escort and/or driver. You will make your way to the bus and transfer to your hotel. Following check-in, you will have free time to unpack and relax or explore Rome on your own. Your tour escort may suggest places to visit. Later in the afternoon, your group will meet in the hotel lobby for a “Meet and Greet” with your fellow pilgrims and depart for Mass. Following Mass, you will attend a welcome dinner. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to walk to St. Peter’s Square, as a group, for the Rosary (optional).
Day 3 | Tuesday, July 29: Rome: Opening Mass – Ancient Rome - Trevi Fountain – Pantheon
Today attend the Jubilee Opening Mass. Ater lunch, join a professional local guide in the Ancient Rome Tour and see the Coliseum. Then we will visit the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings, in large part because it has been in continuous use throughout its history. Since the 7th century, it has been a church dedicated to St. Mary and the Martyrs known as “Santa Maria Rotonda”. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 | Wednesday, July 30: Rome: Jubilee events and Basilica of St. John the Lateran and Holy Stairs
This morning, attend the Jubilee events and catechesis. After lunch, visit the oldest of the four major Basilicas in Rome, and the home to the relics of Peter and Paul, the Basilica of St. John the Lateran. This Basilica is where Pope Francis was installed as Bishop of Rome. Next, you will cross the street to visit the Holy Stairs. These Holy Stairs are the very steps leading up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem on which Jesus stepped on his way to trial during his Passion. The Stairs were brought to Rome by Saint Helena in the fourth century. Ascending these stairs on your knees, in memory of Christ’s agonizing Passion. Walk through the Holy Doors and celebrate Mass. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 5 | Thursday, July 31: Rome: Jubilee events and Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls
This morning, attend the Jubilee events and catechesis. After these activities, the tour of Rome continues with a visit to the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Walls, one of the four highest ranking churches in the Catholic hierarchy. It was originally erected by Roman Emperor Constantine I, supposedly over the grave of Saint Paul himself. Here you will have the opportunity to celebrate Mass and walk through the Holy Doors. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 6 | Friday, August 1: Rome: Jubilee events - Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel
This afternoon, after some time attending the Jubilee events, tour St Peter’s Basilica and Vatican area, including Vatican Museums. Marvel at the Sistine Chapel, the Tapestry Gallery and Raphael Rooms. Celebrate Mass in local Church. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 | Saturday, August 2: Rome: Jubilee events - Santa Croce- St. Lawrence – Jubilee Vigil Mass
Following Jubilee events visit the basilica of Santa Croce which was declared a titular church by Pope Gregory I in 523. Despite the fact it was located on the outskirts of Rome, it became a destination of regular pilgrimage, thanks to the popularity of the relics it kept. These relics include the panel, which was hung on Christ’s Cross, two thorns of the Crown of Thorns; part of a nail; the index finger of St. Thomas; and three small wooden pieces of the True Cross. Next, we will visit St. Lawrence, this Basilica is one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome and one of the five “papal basilicas”, each of which was assigned to the care of a Latin Church patriarchate. Tonight attend Jubilee Vigil Mass at Tor Vergata with youth from around the world.
Day 8 | Sunday, August 3: Rome: Canonization of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Witness history on the momentous day Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is declared a Saint! Known for his joyful spirit, Frassati was called “the Man of the Eight Beatitudes” by Pope John Paul II. He had a great love for the Blessed Mother and the Holy Eucharist. An avid lover of the outdoors, his favorite pastime was mountain climbing. He greatly enjoyed the theater, opera, literature, and the arts. He was pure, happy, and enthusiastic about everything true, good, and beautiful. He was a true model for all Christian young men. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati died of polio, which he contracted from the poor and sick whom he visited in Turin’s slums. He was only 24 years old. Despite his short life, he left a lasting impact by living his faith with passion and serving others with a generous heart. We will make our way today to St. Peters Square to secure our spot for the canonization ceremony. Witness the grandeur, music, and moving speeches as Bl. Frassati is elevated to Sainthood. Pending confirmation, we will meet with the other English-speaking devotees of Frassati to celebrate this historic event. This unforgettable day concludes with dinner and an overnight in Rome.
Day 9 | Monday, August 4: Rome – USA
After an early breakfast and heartfelt farewells, your group will leave by motorcoach and transfer to Rome Fiumicino airport for return flights home.
