Accommodation in Cittadella

Cittadella di Assisi represents the main complex: it gathers meeting rooms, dining rooms, common areas with TV, vending machines (hot drinks, soft drinks and snacks), coffee bar, and reception.

It consists of:

• Single rooms
• Two-bed rooms (two of which can be provided with an additional bunk bed)
• A two-bed room equipped to accommodate people with disabilities
• Triple rooms
• Quadruple room with single beds (set up for the disabled)

Accommodation in Casa Franchi

Our accommodation Casa Franchi is located next to Teatro Metastasio (Metastasio Theatre). The complex is located in a very convenient position for those who want to opt for a nigh-bed and breakfast treatment (the breakfast room is at the ground floor).
Casa Franchi is only 150 meters away from the main complex, so it is easily reachable by two external stairs ramps. In addition, the accommodation is located on a very central street, from which you can quickly reach the main religious or monumental sites.

Casa Franchi consists of:

• Single rooms
• Double rooms with single beds
• Triple rooms with single beds
• Quadruple rooms with single beds
• Quintuple room with single beds

Upon request, all the multiple rooms can be arranged with a double bed.

House in self-management

Whenever “Casa Franchi” is not employed in its daily hospitality activities, it can be managed by groups ranging from a minimum of 25 people and for a minimum of two nights accommodation. The complex provides spaces for cooking and eating.

The kitchen is equipped with:
– Fridge
– Cooker and oven
– Dishwasher
– Cutlery, pots and pans, kitchenware

The daily fee (tourist tax excluded) is € 23,00 (per person.).
Linens for bed/bath and cleaning services are not included.

Linen: one-time payment of € 3,00.

• Reception is scheduled from 8:00 to 22:00. If it is not possible to arrive in time agreed upon, it should be communicated by phone. Rooms are available from 14:00.
• Separate collection must be conducted daily, by leaving the waste on the external paved pathway (it will be collected by our employees).
• Loud noises should be avoided, especially from 14:00 to 16:00 and after 23:00, in accordance of good neighbourly relations and respecting all the other guests in the House.
• Rooms and kitchen should be vacated by 10:00, but any other times can be arranged upon request.
• Rooms, kitchen and dining room should be left cleaned and in order; any final cleaning fee is € 70.00.

Breakfast in Italian style is served from 8:00 to 9:00.

We offer a buffet service: guests can freely enjoy food and drinks, which are laid out on tables.
Guests will find their table all ready, while our staff will be engaged in the hot drinks service.

Details: milk, coffee, tea and hot chocolate – vending machine; bread and rusks; butter, jam and chocolate in single-serve packs; croissants, cereals, yoghurt, juice in jug.

Lunch time is at 13:00 and dinner at 20:00 (19:45 in winter time).

Our cuisine is simple and plain, as inspired by Italian and Umbrian tradition.
We offer seasonal menus and we are also able meet particular dietary needs: intolerances, allergies, diets and also particular menus for groups or conferences whose food depends on cultural and/or religious needs.

Details: first course, second course accompanied by a warm side dish, seasonal salad, fruit or dessert, wine and mineral water.

Cittadella di Assisi offers several panoramic terraces and a gracious amphitheatre, a large open space that can be used for moments of prayer and performances.

The Christian Observatory

The Christian Observatory is a documentation and study centre where it is possible to seek Jesus Christ, whose presence is perceptible in history, actuality and in every human expression such as Literature, Art and Music.

The Library

The Library is specialized for Christological and anthropological studies. It collects about 60,000 volumes concerning Theology, Christology, the Bible, Literature, Philosophy, History and Art; furthermore, the Library conserves an ancient fund of 5000 volumes including about twenty “Cinquecentine” (i.e. highly appraised XVI Century books) and 250 journals in progress. We annually hold meeting of writers/readers and a seminar of Philosophy, in order to highlight those universal values that unify every person, race, religious faith and culture, as well to emphasise the richness of diversity.

Cineteca and Fonoteca

The Cineteca (Film Archive) preserves a prestigious collection of films and clips concerning Christological and Christocentric themes, and it is currently under renovation.

The Fonoteca (Sound Archive) counts over 8100 discs – 500 of which are rare pieces –, 650 cassettes, 100 video-cassettes, 34 VHS and 680 CDs of the greatest musical figures of ancient and contemporary music.
Some works have been commissioned and presented during the concert held at Cittadella di Assisi (during the annual Course of Christian Studies): ranging from the modern “oratorios” of masters Bertolucci, Renzi and Rota – musicians who renewed this ancient musical genre – to the “Sagra della Canzone Nova” (lit.: Festival of the New Music), which was born to promote the highest human values through popular music.

Contemporary Art Gallery

The Gallery holds up to 2500 paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings of contemporary artists, as well as 1550 antique prints. All these works concern Christological subjects; the contemporary art pieces are the result of a research carried out by a group of artists interested in the figure of Christ and – in particular – on the figure of “Jesus Worker”, in order to grasp and enhance the facet of the incarnation of the Divine Word in people’s everyday life.

Among the main authors represented, worth mentioning are Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Ottone Rosai, Mario Tozzi, Francesco Menzio, Aligi Sassu, Agenore Fabbri and Fausto Pirandello.
The complete series of the “Miserere” by Georges Rouault (one of the rarest collection in the world composed by 58 engravings) offers a powerful synthesis on the drama of human condition – War, above all, is a huge burden in the human heart – but also on the fraternal and salvific presence of Christ.
The iconographic section collects thousands of photographs concerning ancient and contemporary Christological subjects, which have been catalogued for further studies.
The Children’s Drawing section is the result of a didactic activity carried out with children in the context of a wonderful project named “Playing with Art”. Participants are called to use ancient communication methods like drawing and mime, as well as contemporary communication tools such as photography, cinema and electronic devices.
