Tips to stay Healthy while Traveling
It is no secret that being in heavy populated public areas (like airports and planes), can lead to the spread of germs or illnesses. Here are some general tips to protect yourself, and return with a healthy mind, body, and faith!
1. Sanitizer
When traveling, you may come in contact with lots of public surfaces, door handles, and railings that may not seem the cleanest. It is always a good idea to travel with hand sanitizer, should you need it. To be prepared from the start, make sure to bring a travel size bottle that meets the airline requirements of less than 3.4 oz (or 100 ml). Hand Sanitizer will be readily available on your Bus each day, as well as in your Hotels.
2. Wipes
Disinfecting wipes are great to bring along, and can be purchased in convenient travel packs! While the Airline Cleaning Crews perform a thorough job in cleaning all aspects of the Airplane that are later inspected before boarding. Should you want to clean more, having your own on hand is a great “peace of mind”.
3. Stay Hydrated
Whether flying at high altitudes, or walking throughout the day, your body needs to stay hydrated. For that reason, we encourage you to stay hydrated throughout each day. Remember that Bottles of Water are available on the Bus daily, and are FREE. We also encourage drinking Fruit Juice as it is a great source of Vitamin A, D, and C – that improve immune function.
4. Keep your skin moisturized
Airplane air is very drying, and cracked skin can lead to infections. Be sure to bring with you lip balm, and skin cream to put on each day.
5. Physical Contact: During Pilgrimage and during Mass
While on Pilgrimage, you will celebrate Mass daily. If you are feeling under the weather, or concerned for the spread of illness, refrain from contact with others during the pilgrimage. During Communion, skip from accepting the “Blood of Christ”. While offering your fellow pilgrims the sign of “Peace” – your neighbors will understand your prayers for them with a simple wave, or even an elbow bump.
6. Get plenty of sleep
Travel will invite a lot of germs to your immune system. By getting a lot of rest before travel, and at the end of each day, you will be putting your best foot forward for a strong body to combat the germs.
